The Birth of My Budding Business
It all started with a casual hike in the desert, where I stumbled upon an abundance of prickly pears. Being new to the desert, their vibrant colors immediately caught my eye, but what truly struck me was the thought of them going to waste. Not one to let good things go unused, I grabbed a pair of tongs and a bag, returned to the desert, and collected as many as I could carry—dreaming of devouring them at home.
Excited to try my first prickly pear, I cut one open and quickly realized they weren’t as simple to enjoy as I’d imagined. They were filled with seeds and not particularly sweet. I couldn’t bear the thought of tossing them out, so my wheels started turning. Inspiration struck: why not turn them into syrup?
Of course, handling prickly pears wasn’t as straightforward as I’d hoped (those spines are unforgettable!), but after juicing the fruit and adding sugar and ginger, I created a delicious prickly pear ginger syrup. I bottled the batch, took a few photos, and shared them on Facebook just to show my friends what I’d made. To my surprise, the response was overwhelming—messages poured in, and my first 12 jars sold out almost instantly.
Buoyed by the excitement, I ventured back to the desert for more prickly pears and tried my hand at making jelly. Once again, I posted my creation online, and once again, it sold out in no time. The feedback was incredible, and before I knew it, people were asking what other flavors I had to offer.
What started as a simple experiment quickly grew into something much bigger. I began experimenting with other fruits, creating unique jams, jellies, and eventually sauces. It became a passion project—a creative outlet where I could explore new flavors and share them with others.
Today, I’m proud to have a growing lineup of products, a website, and a loyal community of customers who’ve supported me every step of the way. What started as a spark of curiosity on a desert hike has grown into something far beyond what I could have imagined.
